Default Dendrobium Hawiian Com?

Hi OBers,
I bought my mum an orchid at auction I went to on the weekend [which was totally worth going to ] labelled as Dendrobium Hawiian Com but I haven't been able to find any information using that name.

I have 3 Dendrobium 'Cooktown' hybirds [from BigW- think an Aussie Wal-mart] that I thought were big with canes almost 2ft [60cm] long and spikes 17inches [44 cm], but this one is much bigger as are the flowers and spikes.. and it's also quite fragrant.

In the photo where you can see a purple maroon bloom and white bloom- those are 2 of my 'Cooktown' hybrids [bought in spike], the orchid on the end right is the HC.

An other photo of the whole plant shows my yellow tape measure: including the pot it measures about 1 metre high.

The third photo shows me holding up one of the spikes with blooms [actually that spike had flowers wilting on it already that I removed].

The two spikes with open blooms are about 32 inches [80cm] long, and there are 4 more spikes that haven't opened yet.

I got it for $28.00, which I thought was a good buy for Mother's Day! especially as she actually picked that out as one she really liked

Someone at the auction mentioned to me that it might like a bit of warmth other than that I know nothing about it other than what I know about dendrobiums in general.

It's going to stay inside with the others on table until it finishes flowering and I'm going to water it once a week or every two weeks [we're in Autumn here] to let it dry out between waterings.

Any advice, care recommendations, or identifications are most welcome

They're looking great!

I looked in Orchidwiz for Den Hawaiian Com and found nothing. There is a Den Hawaiian Gem, is the name on the tag clearly 'Com'? I've had tags that were hard to read or one letter was incorrect and it made researching a bit harder

Thanks Susanne,
you could be right, I found one picture of D.H.G, kind of different- lip color and a little more twisty but there could be different kinds?:

The other big one on the far left on the table I also bought at the auction for a friend, it is supposed to be a Dendrobium taurinum [spelling?].

He is in another state so I have to post it to him but it is over a metre tall so the post office wouldn't accept it- too long they said!

Am sending it by courier now instead, and it'll cost $65.00. Learn something new every day

I wish my kids would take me orchid shopping for Mother's Day. There comes a time when a widow living alone doesn't know what to get for a another gift card to 'Bed Bath and Beyond'. I wish I could drop a hint that I would like a gift certificate for orchids instead.

Wow!!!! $65.00 for shipping. You sure are a good friend. Will you post pictures of your friend's plant?

Hi Grandma M, it's the big one on the far left - you can see in the second photo. My friend actually paid for the shipping, I just 'sourced' those orchids for him .
