Default Masdevallia weleeschii??

I bought an orchid today -- the tag says it's a "Masdevallia weleschii Rip-Hoff AM/AOS". I've been Googling the name, but haven't come up with anything. In fact, the word weleschii doesn't seem to exist. I've found other Masdevallias, but not this one.

Does anyone know for sure what the name of this orchid is??

Looks like that species, not that I am expert. I think it is stunning!

Thanks for the info. It IS a nice orchid, isn't it?? I'm usually attracted to blue and purple flowers, but I love the vibrant colours of this one. And if you look at it at the right angle and in the right light, you can see a very fine purple "fuzz" on the part of it that looks red.

Shadow, I bought it yesterday at an orchid show.

I think you'll find the clone is 'R.I.P.-Hoff' and was a sentimental remembrance of the collector and friend by the late Bob Hoffman in San Francisco.
