...or is it?

This is one of the first chids I ever purchased. Got it from a reputable dealer and it has bloomed in the past.

I ordered it as C Penny Kuroda and that is indeed what the tag says but that little voice in my head tells me it can't be

All the C Penny Kuroda pics I've been able to find show the plant with spots, which makes sense when you see it's parentage (50% guttata). The other background plants are: gaskelliana, mossiae, trianae, labiata and lueddmanniana.

If it weren't for the huge percentage of guttata in the plant, I wouldn't be questioning it but

The bloom is about 5 inches in size, fragrant and the stunning lip is covered in fuzzy sparkly stuff

Well your "little voice" is 100% correct, Penny Kuroda it isn't, sorry I have no idea what you have. All I can think of is that you contact the seller and ask them.

Thanks Warren

It's been over 4 yrs so I won't be contacting them. It is gorgeous and my hubby loves it so I'll just keep it as my lovliest NOID unless somebody can come up with a name

No help here, dunno what your Catt would be called. It is a very pretty one though!
But.. if you need a name for it, have a look at the 'Even NOID's need names' thread, plenty of inspiration to get there

I'm afraid I can't help you on the name.

That's a beautiful Catt, though. If you just can't figure out the ID, you should totally make up a name for it. That's what I do for NOID's.

It not having a name wouldn't have bothered me a few months ago. At that point, I wasn't part of a club...but the Tampa Orchid Club is having their show/sale this weekend and now I have this beautiful chid in bloom which can't be entered for judging

We all have this problem occasionally Sue. It really hurts when you have a whole compot or flask that comes in mislabeled since you wind up with dozens of ? years later. I have a number of things like you are showing and I give them all the same name of C. unknownii!

Aw, Susanne, that does suck . I had a browse online searching for Penny Kuroda and the plants that pop up don't look the same at all. I think that even when they do have a name, it might not be the right one.
Too bad you won't be able to enter this beauty for judging

I really don't mind, it's just a little frustrating

It is SO gorgeous with that stunning sparkly lip, I'd love to be able to show it off in person somewhere
