Gosh, I'd love to find wild orchids on a hike! But the darn hiking part of it leaves me out

It's a great looking 'chid! Thanks for sharing

Im jealous. I hike and find poison ivy and corn, lots of that in ohio.

That is the 'cigar orchid'. Its officially Cyrtopodium punctatum, and listed on their endangered list.

Great find. Which park / swamp are you in? I ak because there could be ghost orchids depending on where you are.

This orchid was found in the Big cypress Preserve in Florida Everyglades. Yes the ghost orchid is around this area but more likely to be found in the Fakahatchee strand. I plan on going there on my next hike.

What a remarkable find! This is, as already said, Cyrtopodium punctatum ('Cow Horn Orchid' or 'Cigar Orchid'). This species is very rare in Florida, but is quite common in other Caribbean and South American countries. The amazing thing about this species is the very wide diversity in coloration and markings. The Florida specimens display this diversity quite well even in rather confined populations...
