Default Very different Phal...

Hello Everyone!

Hope you are all having a great weekend.

I picked up this NOID Phal at my local TJs... bought it because of it's very different looking "ruffled" flower. (I am a Paph person so a bit un schooled in Phals, only have about 12 of them) Is it truely different, a new type, or am I just behind the times with Phals?????

Thanks for your consideration and time! Lisa

Your phal is a Peloric. Notice how the side petals mimic the lip. This isn't extremely unusual.
Enjoy it. I love pelorics.

Wow! Thank guys! I never even considered it a pyloric...I thought those were even more caddywhopus that this plant. I am even more happy that I brought her home now! I notice that buying a pyloric from a breeder/ebay etc is rather expensive. I just like them cause they are different. (yeah, fits right in with my motley crew!)

Enjoy your Sunday! L

Some flowers considered peloric are more markedly peloric than are others. In some the petals merely mimic the appearance of the lip but are still easily recognizable as petals. In others, though, the petals take on so strong a mimicry of the lip that it can be hard to tell which are what.

That's a great looking peloric! I don't have any yet since they are hard to come by in supermarkets or garden centers.

Wow! Great looking bloom!

I frequently visit all of our TJs in the Sacramento area hunting for Paphs so I get to see alot of nice Orchids but this is my first peloric from one. I have just one other peloric and it came from Save Mart. It is a Little Emporer and the blooms are alot more turned around.

I think they are great fun. I saw another in the supermarket yesterday - the buds were kind of triangular! Not sure why I didn't buy it... hmm, maybe tomorrow if it's still there!
