Default Could you please ID this Orange Mini-Cattleya?

Attached is a picture of the first flowers from this plant, which was sold to me with the label "Blc. Gold Bug." However, I think it is something totally different.
The flower has a very faint scent.

This particular Blc is now Thwaitesara Gold Bug = Thwaitesara Bouton D'Or X Guarianthe (formerly Cattleya) aurantiaca

Thwaitesara (Thw.) is an hybrid orchid comprising Cattleya, Guarianthe, Rhyncholaelia and Sophronitis.

It may very well be a Gold Bug .. different cultivars of the same hybrid will result in difference appearances .. including coloration, color intensity, shape and size ..
See the differences in these 3 - Blc. Gold Bug pictures and videos on Webshots
and here too - Blc. Gold Bug pictures from hobbies & interests photos on webshots

Did the plant tag include a epithet with single quotes at the end of the hybrid(grex) name? ... Blc. Gold Bug 'name of cultivar' ?

Where did you purchase it from?
Perhaps you can contact the vendor for it's identity if you don't think it's Gold Bug ..
I did find something similar in appearance but I wouldn't rename it - Potinara Little Toshie 'H&R' (Sc. Beaufort x Blc. Toshie Aoki) - http://www.parksideorchids.com/image...e%20Toshie.jpg
because it's a shot in the dark ...

Dorothy

I think you are getting warmer. This is a fun game.
I would consider comparing the usual sizes of the plant like full-sized catt vs dwarf and if there is definite bloom time.

Default Thank you for your input

Thank you all for your comments. Yes, I agree that this could be a clone of Gold Bug with a rather spectacular variation from the "typical" Gold Bug look (translucent yellow-orange with same color petal/sepal/lip).

I contacted the vendor and he assures me that this is a seed grown Gold Bug, and mine is a spectacular clone with an unusual appearance. He tells me that he has never seen this particular flower before.

Either way, I really like this plant, which is a well behaved, miniature plant (currently about 6 inches in height) with a very strong-looking chartreuse-colored leaves (combination of unifolate and bifolate) and stems. As I mentioned before, the flower has a nice fragrance as well.

Should I "name" this one? Or should I still assume this is a known clone with a wrong name tag?
