I'd almost bet the first and third photos are Encyclia tampensis (from your location) I have some images posted in my gallery. The second one has the same plant plus one I am not familiar with (a Dendrobium?) BTW, thanks for help in getting my sig tag to work!

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

WOW! Great find. Thats what field biologists call "Having a Search Image". Knowing what to look for, and finding it even when its hidden in plain site. Oh, and my first thought on the first pic was definetly an Enclyia.

Somebody put them there, they're growing on slabs of wood hanging from a tree. I didn't see them at first, they were tucked in behind some bromeliads and palm leaves. They seem happy enough, I guess I'll leave them alone and see what happens. Might even put my other Dendrobium out with them, it's probably better off that way.  |

That Encyclia tampensis will do better if you give put it upright (leaves and the slab upwards)... the new shoots will develop and possibly bloom if you do... and try and give it a little more water for about 2 more weeks... dry season has already started for the sub-tropical part of Florida... =)

It is upright, I just moved it for the picture. It should be getting plenty of water from the sprinklers, but I'll keep an eye on them to be sure.

Your lawn sprinkler system is this connected to a well or city water. Palm Beach County Utilities states they provide wth highest quality water and "enviromentally sound"...easy to say but I have to beg to differ. Had a friend in PBC that has a similar outdoor set up, under oak trees and surrounding shrubs with a sprinkler system/city water. Her orchids were slow to acclimate, moulted leaf colors and the blooms were less than desireable for an AOS judge. If city water, suggestively, after watering resaturate with purified water of choice. But what a great bonus...

"City" water in PBKC varies from municipality to municipality. Ours is high ph, 8.3, and high in Chlorine. Our well water is great though!
