This is a beauty! It is not an orchid, this is Tillandsia bulbosa, still a very interesting plant!

You may want to get the Tillandsia bulbosa out of the sphagnum... they tend to like it dry and shady... don't be alarmed if there are no roots, as bromeliads have specialized leaf cells which absorb the water, while the roots are more like foot-holds.
Another one related to your Tillandsia bulbosa is Tillandsia caput-medusae. These are larger and hairier, and tend to have less showy inflorescences and flowers then Tillandsia bulbosa...

My next question was should I leave it planted as is, seeing as it seems to be in such good shape...but you say it's best to get it out of the spag? What's the best way to grow these?

May sound like torture to any other plant... I grow all of my Tillandisia on cork mounts... but to get them to stay on the mount, you should use hot glue... hold them in place on the mount for about 20 seconds...
How does everyone else grow them?

Okay...two things I've just been reading has me confused...they both say that the plants should be mounted either horizontally or upside down, but one place says bright lighting and the other says shade!
I'll take care of the mounting tomorrow but then where do I put it?
