Definitely get it out of soil (though that may actually be a peat-based mix that is OK but should be watered sparingly). It can probably even be repotted while in bloom, but you should be OK to wait. I would use an open bark mix, so water flows through and it stays very airy. Basically, you can treat like a Phal except more light.

If/when you take it out of its current potting situation and follow Roberta's suggestion (which I do recommend) I would still try and give it a good daily mist and a thorough drenching once every 4 (ish) days. Make sure it gets good air circulation as it wants to essentially dry out in between mistings/waterings. ie: wet, dry, wet, dry, etc. You'll have pretty good humidity where you are, especially in the summer which will be helpful.

That's a really nice species you have there so good luck and enjoy.

With the thickness of the leaves, it is more likely Vanda garayi, or possibly a cross between miniata & garayi.

It needs more light than what you give Phalaenopsis. It should be in Cattleya type light. And, if you put it in bark, I would recommend watering every other day.

I plant my small Vandaceous in net pots (for air circulation), but in spaghnum to hold moisture longer. I currently water heavily every 3 days.

would you be willing to share which vendor you're referring to? I see a lot of orchids for sale on EBAy and I am sometimes tempted...
