Mystery volunteer - Orchid Board

Ok this is cool.

I have this dendo kingianum on a mount that hasn't bloomed for 2 years because the temps don't go below 62 in my grow room. I was pleasantly surprised to see a spike poking out this morning!

However, on closer inspection this is a different plant, and one I can't ID. Looks like maybe some type of ground orchid?

Any guesses at ID?

I can only see the leaves, can't see if there might be a pseudobulb, or not...It looks like it's getting pretty close - the flower will tell more... What a treat!

Hard to tell for sure but doesn't seem like it!

Doesn't look like there's a pseudobulb. But that still leaves plenty of "orchid options" . Really eager to see what you get! Is that an "Andy mount"? If so, no telling what might have gotten pollinated and dropped "bonus plants" around.

For what it is worth, my hybrids both bloom and I don’t really stay below the 62 mark very long

I know hybrids are different but I think this can still bloom (itself as opposed to a hitchhiker) too

Looking forward to the opening!

I can tell you that the two ground orchids I know are not this. The bellataria has different leaves and the euliphonia has a chunky pbulb

I must be really lucky because I had a volunteer on a dendrochillum I got from Andy as well; a reedstem epidendrum that hasn't bloomed yet but is growing beautifully.

Maybe the Kingianum just needs to get a little bigger.

I am definitely not having luck looking at pictures. The leaves have a heavy substance, like a bulldog style paph or something.

I'll keep everyone updated

That would seem unlikely that a paph could get that big so fast but who knows?????? Guess we'll find out soon enough.

If it came from Andy's, odds are very good that it is a species... Andy doesn't have hybrids, at least not in significant numbers. He does have incredibly-densely populated growing areas... so "volunteers" do happen.

I am hoping/guessing it is a cypripedium of some type but can't find anything that looks like an exact match
