Heya

I've seen this one last week at a botanical garden, unfortunately without a label. It was growing in the tropical zone attached to the bark of a tree (by means of a cut-up pantyhose - thought that was a nice touch). Individual flowers are probably the size of a fingernail.
I've never seen anything like it and all my books seem to cover mostly orchids that are widely available as houseplants. Anyone got an idea what it is?
(Apologies for the photo to be sideways - I haven't figured that one out yet)

I wish the leaves were in better focus. Do you recall if the leaves were plicate, having prominent ridges running lengthwise? The flower looks like Gongora portentosa, but the leaves aren't in focus enough. If it's not G
portentosa and you do find out what it is, I want one!

As far I recall the leaves were fairly smooth apart from the midrib - at least not as deeply ridged as for Gongora - but I'll keep looking! It definitely is a lovely one

I did a little checking myself, and I can definitely buy your identification. And if anyone knows where one for sale is, I'll definitely buy that too! I'm going to call Andy's as soon as they're open!

Hmmmm.... My first thought was Oncidium sotoanum.

Sure is pretty. Did you get a pic of the roots? Do you recall if they were thin and spindly or thicker, more like a dendrobium

I think that's it Ray! I compared with my pictures and that looks just like it.

Unfortunately my few shots are poor quality and I didn't get a picture of the roots, but comparing it with all the suggestions made - from the flowers, size and habit, I believe it is as Ray said!

When I checked that out it looks even closer. And even better, since it seems to be more temperature tolerant!
