Hi all,

I was hoping to have this orchid species confirmed. I bought it from eBay some years ago as Vanda / Aerides Flabellata. It’s finally flowered with pure white scented flowers that are nothing like the google images shown for the assumed species...

Any definite ID would be greatly appreciated

Dan

Yup, definitely looks like a neofinetia falcata. Should have a coconut or jasmine like fragrance.0

I think it’s now classified as Vanda falcata, so your original ID may have been correct minus a transcription error at the species level.

Yep, that’s what I was expecting. I don’t know wether to feel short changed by getting this or pleasantly surprised 😄 It does have a nice scent that fills the room, but lacks any colour!

You need BOTH! Each lovely in their own way, and grow under similar conditions (both are quite cold-tolerant)

Wow, silly me. I didn’t know there was a flabellata. It looked like a misspelling. Sorry.

A really nice high-elevation species AeridesFlabellata
Seems that the genus-du-jour
is currently Aerides.
