Default my Phals doing well with cool nights and days.

our house gets down to 58 at night and sometimes the day when we are not home. but all my pals are blooming. I have several in s/h that are on a heating pad but three that are mounted too and they are blooming now.

I have hybrid phals on a cool porch (not unheated but awfully close to it). I'd say temps usually in the 50s. As long as you don't keep them too wet, they'll be fine. They may not grow much till it warms up..but they're tough. Side benefit, the flowers last forever in good condition.

Mine have suffered at the low 60s. I bought them a tiny space heater, which created it's own set of problems. However, my greenhouse window had ice on the inside. New window this coming year...

Almost all my complex hybrid Phals can deal fine with brief stints in the low 50s. Fewer can tolerate prolonged exposure to low 50s with dips into the 40s. Very few can tolerate prolonged 40s with dips into the high 30s.

None have up and died, but there’s been moderate to severe damage on plants that were pushed too far without prompt corrective action. I have quite a few that are experiencing “challenging” winter temperatures right now. But, I’ve been making room in the house for those that show signs of cold damage this year. As long as I bring them in at the first sign, I can prevent significant damage. There are some that just can’t overwinter outside.

thanks for the info. I was not worried about them but it is good to know. I would hate to have to spend more on heat.
