Phalaenopsis Yaphon Twisted Roll
Default Phalaenopsis Yaphon Twisted Roll

First time blooming for this plant. Only one bloom but with more on the way. The bloom is nicely scented - citrusy and has a heavy waxy texture.

What a fantastic looking Phal! I'll have to keep my eye out for something similar, I love thick waxy blooms, especially with spots.

Thanks it was sold as Phalaenopsis Yaphon Nicegirl X Zheng Min Tyrannosaurus, the Nicegirl parent seems to strongly influence the bloom.

It's a very nice example of this line of breeding.

While the flower overall is fairly similar to other Phals that are yellow with red bars, the real standout feature of your plant's flower (to me) is the lip. It's got a lot of red in it and good coloration. I usually pass on this type of flower despite loving the yellow and red petals because the lip is often pink/purple and/or much too pale for my taste.

The lip does seem to be quite variable in this hybrid - I also appreciate the fact that it is red and not that shocking pink that sometimes looks so out of place compared to the petals of a phalaenopsis.
