Phal Bellina Coerulea vs Phal Tetraspis C1 Male
Default Phal Bellina Coerulea vs Phal Tetraspis C1

Hi guys! Soon I'll be making a purchase via internet. I have to reduce the amount of orchids I order due to money and space issues (I would order myself a rainforest if I could xD).

I'm trying to only get fragrant orchids (mostly phals and oncidiums), and in bloom too, because that helps me reduce the list a lot and I get to enjoy the flowers right away.

So, getting to the point, between a Phal bellina coerulea and a Phal Tetraspis, both of them adults but none in flowerk, wich one would you go for?

I want to make an exception to the "in bloom" rule because I just love those species and they are hard to get.

Thanks for your answers

PS. didn't know where to post, and this seemed the best place for it, sorry if it's actually not.

If you are going for fragrance, definitely the bellina. Their flowers actually look better in life than in a photo. I am not a fan of Phals but I have two bellinas as the fragrance and the flower makes owning them very worthwhile.

If your going more for the fragrance, go with the bellina. It's more floral whereas tetraspis smells somewhat soapy.

If its flowers you want, go for the tetraspis. It can bloom a couple times a year with several blooms per flowering, whereas bellina generally only blooms each year in summer with a couple of flowers. Both can rebloom from old spikes as long as they are still green.

If you can't decide......get both!!

In the end I decided against both, because my life situation is kinda unstable at the moment and I donīt know if I will have to move soon, wich being on an island is a hassle.
Also I'm still veeery noob in the orchid world and my space and growing conditions are limited. So I'm gonna reserve the botanical phals for when I know I can invest enough time in the without any problems.

I got a Sharry baby, a Phal Sweet Memory Liodoro, a Phal Kaoda Twinkle Chocolate drop and an awarded Doritaenopsis Abed-Nego Penny, so I guess Im covered in the fragrance aspect at the moment.

Thanks a lot for your quick answers nonetheless, they were very insightful.

Cheers!
