What Type is This?
Default What Type is This?

Hello, Experts,

I am trying to get another orchid of the exact same type as this phaleonopsis. I am hoping that this variety come in yellow? Any help with the "official" name of this variety and what colors it comes in would be so helpful.
Many thanks,
Diane

No one can truthfully answer this question and provide the answer you are looking for.

The photo you provided shows a white Phalaenopsis. There are countless named and un-named white hybrid Phals out there. Without a tag with the hybrid name, the only ID you can give is "white hybrid Phal".

It is sort of like acquiring a dog "without papers". Maybe he looks like a dachshund. Without papers, you can't be sure that his great grandmother wasn't a Welsh corgi, or his grandfather wasn't a miniature pinscher. So, you can't enter him in a dog show or breed pure dachshunds with him. So what? Take him for a walk, feed him properly, take him to the vet, play fetch, let him sleep on your lap (just enjoy him like any other dog). Do the same with your NOID Phalaenopsis.

You also wanted this same exact hybrid white Phal to be available in yellow. Can't be done. That is like expecting your same dachshund to have blue eyes & be able to pull a sled in the snow. If that's what you need, you really are no longer looking for a dachshund, instead you are looking for husky traits. With the orchid, just look for a yellow hybrid Phal whose characteristics you like. If ID is important, be sure to buy one with a tag.

The come in just about any color other than a bright blue, brown and black. Over the years I have seen one that was tan in color and not dyed no joke.

You do have options, if you are not worried about ID then you can just keep your eye out and a similar size and shape will probably turn up, sooner or later. The standard "Gift Orchid", so looking around during Mothers day, Valentines and any other lovey dovey holidays may yield fruit.

If you would like a true Named Hybrid, it just means doing a little digging and hopefully a reliable Orchid Nursery may be able to source one for you.

Here's a couple of links to help you get started on your treasure hunt.
Orchid Photo Galleries - Phalaenopsis species and Hybrids
Hybrids Photo Gallery of Phalaenopsis hybrids from The Orchid Place Singapore (ignore the rather busy background on this site if you can)

And an example of a yellow Hybrid from the first site.

Please note the links provided are just a small selection of the many upon many Hybrids out there. More and more are produced as time goes by.

Default Matching my orchid

So sorry to bother you with my obviously silly and trite question. Well, I guess it gives some some people a chance to do some creative pontificating, so perhaps you can feel good about that. That was quite a long riff about the sled dogs and all.

I am trying to match the original orchid because it was one given to me at my first dog's passing. I want the same type for my second dog's passing, which was all of 5 days ago.

Your thoughtful responses are overwhelming. I will not bother coming back again. Have a nice day. And maybe study up on compassion.

Diane don't take it wrong he was just trying to be funny. No one would have known you just lost your dog. Which I am so sorry for. I too am a dog lover as there are many on here that are as well.

He was just trying to tell you that there are so many hybrids out there and no one can tell you which one it is. Even the white ones can be different. I have 2 and even though they are both white one is yellow in the center and one is more green and has larger blooms on it. You will have to just go look and find one you like. And yes they do make yellow phals.

And again I'm so sorry for your loss, but remember it is so hard to tell some times exactly how people mean things on a forum. I found that out and had to get a bit tougher hide.

Diane, as No-Pro-mwa said, I had no idea about your dog; no way that I could have known that.

You have my condolences.
