As the subject line says, where do you folks go to buy named phalaenopsis? Where I used to go on the net are gone.

Thanks

I haven't looked at their offerings in detail, but Carmela's and Hausermann's always have a lot for sale. Carter & Holmes has a few throughout the year, including now.

Some named Phals that came to me in a grower's-choice special from Carmela's are very nice plants.

Louisiana Orchid Connection
Big Leaf Orchids

Granted, I only have a handful but they are where I got them.

Forgot Orchids Limited

For a fairly local solution, you might try Lowes or sometimes Home Depot. I've even lucked out at some grocery stores, especially higher-end and organic stores.

I don't know about Texas, but it is orchid show season where I live. I like to see the plants when I buy, so I do much of my buying at shows. Do you have that option?

IMO,Big Leaf Orchids is top drawer. Have bought from them and selection is extraordinary. Peter Lin is known for his work-check it out. Also in Tx. is Clown Alley Orchids.

I like Hausermann's they have FAST and very nice shipping. They ship out of Illinois I believe, so maybe two days to Texas is not bad.

I can't say enough great things about Louisiana Orchid Connection, and that's before taking into consideration the sheer number of species they carry.

Of note, growing a Phalaenopsis seedling, especially a species, is a lot more demanding than a regular sized plant. The seedling leaves are not only small, but grow horizontally which makes them very prone to fungal infections. I wound up potting mine in AAA Besgrow sphagnum, in slotted 3" pots set in small saucers. I water the saucers, and let them drink their water, rather than risk getting the water in the tiny crowns.

I bought a Phal amabilis around Thanksgiving, in bud, from Hausermann's, and it arrived in perfect condition, was in full bloom for Christmas, and is still in bloom. Their orchids are priced very well and they always have quite a few in bud. After this experience, I might just get myself a Phal in bud every year around the same time from Hausermann's. It was a really nice experience.

I think it depends on what you like. If you like novelty type, then definitely Big Leaf Orchids or Louisiana. If you like the big standards, there are lots of places. Big Leaf also has a few standards, but you might want to try one of the places above.
