I would cut off that half of the leaf. Whether you cut the leaf or not, watch the plant closely to be sure nothing is spreading.

What do you think of the leaf at this stage? Should I leave it?

In an event where I would need to cut the affected area off, what steps should I take?

I'd remove that leaf immediately, cutting as close to the base as is practical, then dust the wound with cinnamon powder.
