I wish I could have had the other buds flower but it looks like it's adjustment to my environment was not good. All the other buds blasted 😞 it has another spike so hopefully that will produce some flowers soon. I did detect a faint fragrance in the morning, it seems a little spicy and sweet, I really can't describe it lol. It's not bad at all

Mine barley smells the last 2 times it bloomed. It is still blooming on the same spike, I think I said that. It was much stronger the first time around. I could never figure out what it smelled like either except it was so familiar but I could never put my finger on it. It was nice though. I really like this little guy.

How do you grow your Lucky Star? It seems this orchid likes a lot of water. I might add some more sphagnum moss on the top to keep it happy. It might have dropped its flowers bc it was too dry? I am not sure, but I love the flower, it's beautiful

Was I cooking soup when I wrote that barley soup

I have mine in a 3 in. plastic pot with slits in it. With a seedling bark mix I get from Kellys Korner. And I think I put in a bit more spagh as they dry out a bit fast for me. This is what I have been putting all my mini's in and it seems to be working well for me. I have to water them at first about every 2 days but after they have been potted for a while then I can cut that back to more like every 3 or if I'm really pushing it 4 days. It is in bright light intermediate temps. It can get into the 50's at night if it's really cold outside, but warms up in the day time. For what ever reason mine with the last 2 blooms is smelling again. It's not real bold so I have to put my nose right in it but it has a nice smell. I'll put up my last bloom picture for you to see what my blooms look like. I really like it to.

Default Why do different "Phal. Younghome Lucky Star" Look Different?

Why do different "Phal. Younghome Lucky Star" look different?

If the name was in 'Younghome Lucky Star' single quotes would that mean an exact clone?

Why do named orchids look different?

I thought they where unique.

Thanks... Ken

Hi Ken,

Welcome to the Orchid Board.

This is an old thread. More people would see your question if you started a new thread.

A cross between two different species or hybrids gets a name written with initial capitals and no quotes. All the progeny of the cross get this name. Like children in a family, they look similar but are individually different.

Sometimes a grower will decide one individual plant is good enough to get a varietal name. That is written after the cross name, inside single quotes with initial capitals.
