Phalaenopsis Jo Vernon x violacea
Hello All,
This is a plant I obtained from an import batch last fall, along with a bunch of Phal. violacea and equestris seedlings. The plants were tagged Phal. Jo Vernon 'Joe Sam Ben' AM-AOS x Phal. violacea f. coerulea 'Sandy's Blue'.
I'm still new to growing Phal violacea and its hybrids and this is the first seedling of any that I have purchased to flower out. The color is difficult to capture, outside under the sunlight you can make out spotting across much of the flower but indoors the bloom is just a red-purple color. The flower itself is only 2.25 inches in span but there is another spike forming and the parentage would suggest the possibility of branching inflorescences from this cross, which would more than make up for the lack of size.

Something different
Since the first flower opened up the plant has continued to open up additional blooms on both of the spikes. The newer flowers are not quite as large but they do add to the fragrance and so far they have been open for quite some time without fading.
The second caught me off guard, it has the fragrance and shape but drastically different color pattern. Had to look back a few generations to realize that Phal. amboinensis was part of the background and seems to have made an appearance with this individual.
There are 2 more individuals with spikes and buds forming, really excited to see what else comes out of this hybrid.

Wow. Makes me want to buy seedling batches... I'm amazed at your capacity to grow and hold all of these guys. I barely have space for a handful, let alone a shipment!
