Default Guessing game - spike or root?

Hi everyone! I don't post much, but lurk and learn often.

Anyway, one of my favorite (I think. Actually, I love them all!) orchids has something emerging from it, and I thought I would post a picture and have you guys guess whether it's a root or spike.

Maybe some of you more knowledgeable people will be able to tell me for sure, but if you don't know, take a wild guess.

Of course, I'm hoping for a spike--I got it last May--but roots are always good, too. But I'm REALLY hoping for a spike!!

ETA: hmmm...still not working. Will try another post.

Awesome! I wondered how many posts it would take, but couldn't find anything.

It is a NOID that I fell in love with at a nearby Meijer. I will post a picture of it after I post this.

It must be more than 5 because I still can't post a picture. Maybe it's 10?

Normally it's 5 posts before being able to post photos . How are you trying to upload the photos?

I'm using Photobucket, and copying the direct link into the little "insert image" icon thingy. If that makes any sense...

There we go! It worked!

whatever you did, this time it worked! Hard to tell from this angle, and it's really small. But if I had to venture a guess, I'd say spike since it's in the right spot. It should be possible to tell what it is within a few weeks. A spike tip will be somewhat flat, and have the characteristic mitten shape, while a root tip will appear round.

My camera (or really, the lens) hates taking pictures of anything that hints at being macro, so it's hard to get good pictures. It's basically still flat with the rest of the plant--just a small bulge, but it's not like an actual spike-shaped thing is out yet.

I hope you're right!

It's a spike. You can see the bracket/sheath on the bottom.

Here is an updated picture. Definitely a spike, but I think it's time to call the doctor with the forceps! It might be a breach delivery.

Okay from this angle, I'm actually less sure. It's pointing up, but there's a bit of white at the base which makes me wonder if it's a root in "breech" position as you say. Time will tell, either way.
