One Inch on Sunlight Across Phal

Hello All I opened the blinds in a south window about one inch. I now have a one inch band of sunshine which moves across the plant from right to left. As the sun moves west the band of light moves east. The sunshine does not stay in one spot maybe 10 to 15 minutes at the most. Trying to give the plant a little more light. I'm sure in there natural habitat they would receive a bit of sunshine. Would this be beneficial or more harmful? The sun is not in one spot long enough to burn the Phal. I live in Southern California. Thanks for all your help. I also mist my Phal daily around 11:00AM about the time that one inch of sun moves across the Phal. Would it hurt or help to open the blind a bit more? Thanks Again

I would think that when it is through a glass (or double paned) window, that no amount of direct sunlight could hurt the phal.

Some of the boxes in the area get awful hot with the sun beating on them all day. The plant getting that hot may hurt or even kill the plant. We have days here reaching over 100 degrees. I've read many places on the internet to shade south windows. Full sun should only come from an east window a bit of morning sun. Thanks

you are correct. I even shade a West-facing window.
I think you are fine with what you are doing with the blinds, just also make sure that the phal is not right up against the window too. Misting is OK, provided its the root area only and not the crown of the plant. I don't mist at all because I lost a couple of phals even though I was very careful with misting - I thought. I do however make sure that humidity is above 50% and that is difficult without a humidifier.

Thanks for the advice when I mist that's all it is a mist no droplets form. I figure it may help the aerial roots from drying up and absorb some of the water bringing it to the plant plus adding a little humidity to the air. I do have the pot over a small bowl filled with small pebbles and water to add humidity to the air. Any humidity which I can add will sure to help. Most likely in there natural habitat it may rain daily or close to it. Thanks my Friend
