Noid Phal that has been in bloom since last May 2014. Male
Default Noid Phal that has been in bloom since last May 2014.

Hi All,
I have this Noid Phal that has been in bloom since last May. The flowers are starting to fade a little but they are still hanging in there. I am proud of this one because it seems like I have had more failures than successes. Most of my Phals are on the road to recovery because of something that I did wrong. This one almost died about two years ago due to a lack of sun light and staying too moist. I now keep it in an East facing window where in gets about 2 - 3 hrs of direct sun. I know Phals are not supposed to get direct sun but this one seems to love it. At least for me, this inconsistancy is what makes orchid growing so challenging. Each plant likes something different from the others.

That is a beautiful plant PapaPhal! Does it have a name? I grow all of my Phalaenopsis in eastern sunlight. The four hours of direct sunlight is very good for them.

Thank you. Sorry, I do not know its name. My daughter picked out at Home Depot. It is good to know that you put your phals in an Eastern facing window also. Some of mine do good there others, not so much. But most do well. At my place, they get even more sun this time of year. I water them once a week. I just wish I had a little more room.

I'm sorry I did not pay any attention to your thread's title! I have a similar looking plant, it is a Dtps. Sogo Harleqin but mine has no yellow on the lips, it is white. I think your flower with the yellow color is very appealing.

Eastern light is how I have grown my Phalaenopsis.

On second thought, I do know the name of the phal with a little yellow around the lips. It is named "My little Darling" because my daughter picked it out,. Thanks for the feed back.

This is gorgeous, and I LOVE how it's leaning out. I'm finding it hard to find advice on how to start the process of leaning a phal over like that. At least I read that it's a bit of a process.

Do I just tip it a bit each repot? So, my phal will look like that in 6 years? haha!

Hi Mandirose,
It is interesting that you like the plant leaning like that because when I repot I try to place it with the leaves facing up. Ha ha. Just so you know the way you see it in the picture is the way they grow naturally in the wild. We orchid fanatics actually place them unnaturally in the pots with the leaves facing straight up. Not sure if you know this, if so forgive me, but with the natural follage arrangement water can run out of the area where the leaves join with the main stem. If water is allowed to collect in that area, the leaf or leaves will actually fall off! Anyway my orchid tilts the way you see it naturally. The leaves and flower stem want to face the Sun so gradually they will tilt that way on their own. Thank you for your kind words.Good luck!

Okay! I'll just let it happen organically then! What I like about it is the cascading flowers. I think they're beautiful in just about every way, but I love them best in their awkward horizontal presentation.

It just looks so cool to me. Your girl made a great pick!

My Phals that do the best are all in windows with some direct sun. I have two spiking in an East window, 3 spiking in a West window and 1 spiking in a south window. All get 2-4 hours of direct sun a day.
