(Seriously, I think it is probably a pulcherima/violacea mix, but you are right, which one is not really possible to tell)

I think I've heard that pulcherima can go through a definite cycle of growth, where it starts a 'ring' of growth each year, with new roots and leaves above the previous year's. Violacea is reputed to be sensitive to temperature: I've heard of them dropping leaves in response to cold drafts? If your plant is coming back as strong each time then maybe it's not too big a worry?
Haha. Maybe!
It certainly does. That information alone is helpful.

The it certainly does do that. The issue is new roots abort after a few inches. If it doesn't get some going into the potting medium soon it won't have any roots left.
It grows leaves at a pretty constant rate.
I'm really hoping I can nurse it and the keiki to full health.

Wow! Beautiful! It's fragrant, and it only cost $9!? That's awesome!!! Perfect.

...I'm gonna have to find one like this one, for sure!

Right? The scent changes I've noticed. In the mornings it's lemony, midday it's exactly like cinnamon buns, and it finishes the day with fruit loops scent.

I'm pretty sure a cross similar to this is widely available online.

Just looking on RHS for some more hybrids in this 'group':

Purple Martin crosses:
Saphire's Galah (x violacea)
Tarifor Blue Ray (x bellina)
Tying Shin Blue Jay (x pulcherima. Not sure it would be scented?)
Tying Shin Purple Lover (x Kenneth Schubert. Had to be one!)

Re bad roots: I'm finding what works for me with a lot of phals is to put them in a tiny pot in chunky medium (or even keep bare root) and spray the roots daily. I've managed to bring a few back that way, though it's a slow process, and mine have tended to go back and forward a bit before finally getting established.

And how could I not mention one of my favorite orchid names ever... Kenneth Schubert x tetraspis

Yaphon Bluepis
I had no idea there were so many crosses! I'm going to Google them all!
Especially Yaphon Bluepis lol.

Unfortunately bareroot phals= desiccated roots in my house.
I'm bumping up the humidity soon. Hopefully that will help. My struggling one is already in a chunky bark mix.
It send up around 6 robust leaves over the course of the year. Then sends out roots. The roots die. All but two leaves fall off. And it repeats the process.
Gah!

I wouldn't be surprised if there's more. Eg I didn't look what Saphire's Gala has been crossed with LOL And there were lots involving other species, I just looked at some violacea/bellina/pulcherema ones.

Of course, you know you can get pink Purple Martins?
