Personally I prefer it to the 'proper' version!

Could be worse: I heard somewhere that it's turned out that Fredclarkeara After Dark 'Black Pearl' has turned out not to be stable when mericloned, and some folks who've paid big money for that have not got black flowers!

LadySoren: don't really know. It's sometimes difficult to know if it's a genuine mistake, and if it's a couple of years till it flowers, then is it the seller mixed the plants up or you? Difficult to prove... So good luck!

Here's the Fredclarkeara for anyone interested:

Luckily it seems the owner is happy with it! I think I want both versions now LOL

Or are you just screwed?

I recently purchased a Phal from orchids . Com and I am suspicious that it may not be the correct one. It could just be me being skeptical of buying an orchid while it's not in bloom tho. Paranoia.
Or paraNOIDa (ok that was dumb haha)
I have been compensated for this wonky Formosa Rose. Last year, I purchased a Paph henryanum from the same vendor. It recently flowered for the first time and it turned out to be a Paph villosum. I've been compensated for that one too, so I think it all depends on the vendor's policies (they're my favourite vendor, so all my compensation was chosen as bonus codes, some mislabeled plants won't ever deter me from ordering from them again).

I want a proper version too... Love splashies.

I checked your link, and I liked that version of Fredclarkeara After Dark 'Black Pearl', so sometimes, these unstable genes are a positive thing. I think for example, that maybe my Formosa Rose might be a better grower than the "normal" version.

Very nice, regal looking kinda. I would keep it too.

I have a NOID grocery store phal that looks just like this with the random markings.

I emailed the greenhouse and they said it was a genetic mutation, but my friend who is the president of my local orchid society just posted a pic of a phal that also looks very similar to both of these and says the weird markings are caused by a virus?
