Noid Phal. with leaves growing at base of flower spike Female
Default Noid Phal. with leaves growing at base of flower spike

Hi,
I have had this noid phal. for awhile. It is in spike again. I see little leaves forming at the base of the spike. What are they?

Picture numer 2 is the spike that has the leaf at the base shown in pic. 3.

Picture 4 is the other spike. It looks like a leaf is forming there too. The last picture is taken from the opposite side of the plant.

Thanks for looking

It's called a basal keiki. It's a new small plant growing off the main stem of the mother plant. Sometimes they remain very small and don't grow much but, if you're lucky, it can grow into mature plant and bloom at the same time as the mother plant. Keikis can also form on flower spikes. Those keikis can be removed once they have enough roots to live on their own. I prefer not to remove basal keikis from the main stem. Just leave it alone and let it grow.
