Doritis pulcherrima & Doritaenopsis light levels? Male

I have grown my Doritis on a very bright exposed place, together with Schomburgkias, Rhyncholaelia digbyana, Laelia sincorana, gouldiana etc. They were stressed and suffering from mealybugs.
Then I moved them to a more humid, shadier place and sprayed them once. Now they are doing much better, and there is not a single insect on them any more.

Yhanks for the pictures of doritis, Gloria. I especially loved the one with the two basal keikis. I love Doritis and hybrids for the color-- just a glorious (no pun intended) radiant color that they tend to pass on to offspring.

I'd like to hear more about how you grow yours-- are they in a sphag or sphag mix?

Theresa,

I have 3 of these, all growing in different locations under different lighting.
All have the same media - sphag.moss coupled with coarse rok (large perlite) as you can see in the photo's they are grown in clay pots. Water every 5 days during the cooler months such as now. At Warmer times this could be every 3 days but with a harder drenching. I probably fertilizer every 3rd watering.
These are also potted fairly tight.

Wonderful easy and interesting to grow, everyone should have 1. Really wonderful for a beginner for sure, not fussy at all. All those basal grows are great, you can share them with friends within time, such nice gifts

One is in tight bud right now, its' kinda pretty the way the buds form - almost looks like a flower in itself.
Shouldn't be too much longer

Thanks for the information, Gloria.

I mixed some left-over perlite into my sphag the other day, after seeing your tip about mixing it with sphag for a mix that stays more open instead of compacting.

It really does a nice job opening the sphag up, even tho it's just the regular smallish perlite. I added some tree fern as well. So I ordered some rok from Calwest yesterday.

I think it will make a great mix for me, so thanks for the tip. :P
