A Phaltastic Update! Male
Default A Phaltastic Update!

Well, it has (once again) been a long time since I have updated you all with new pictures, mostly because it is simply depressing taking pictures with our pitiful point and shoot, but today I decided to take three of my new Phals that are also in bloom outside for some pictures, and it turned out surprisingly well, so I just went and got more Phals and took a bunch of pictures! (19 to be exact)

First off, I will start with three out of the five new plants that I got from Crystal Star Orchids last Friday (I would've posted much earlier, but I had a school grad and then I went out of town for a funeral).
Here is the three that had buds that are now in bloom. Left to right is equestris 'Red', Princess Kaiulani 'Chin Yo', and Purple Martin 'K.S'

The PM 'K.S.' has two mature spikes and one that is still quite small, but it has been growing like crazy! I noticed that our point and shoot consistently makes everything more blue than in reality, so I edited the picture to make it quite close to what is real.

The one that I was most excited for, the Princess Kaiulani opened soon after receiving it, and it is quite spectacular!!

And the equestris 'Red', which has quickly pushed out many new blooms since I got it, and now is carrying two pods, both of which I hope make it! One flower holds pollen from my venosa, and the other from a TSFE that Jim donated to me.

Oh, I also decided to quickly toss in a picture of my Joshua Irwin Ginsberg 'Kupo's Valentine', because I was picture happy!

For the second part, I decided to take pictures of everything that was in spike or bud, which is quite a lot! (I have been planning it out, and I will soon have 12 pods growing in my closet, given everything takes, and I already have 4)
Back row left to right is: amboinensis and I-Hsin George, both from Crystal Star, and both huge plants! Front row is: Angdi Kolopaking, Hiroshima Tetratris, and equestris 'Orange' and kieki.

The I-Hsin George is HUGE, by far the largest in my collection. It appears that the one spike may be active, and I am sure there is a new one just starting to grow.

The is also quite large, and it appears to have an active spike.

My little stinker, the Angdi Kolopaking has done nothing much in the spike department since I have got it, but it has one teensy tiny nubbin that might be a new spike!

After a while of doing nothing, the Hiroshima Tetratris decided to push out buds and a new leaf, and the largest of the three buds should open soon.

The little equestris 'Orange' is a large keiki that a friend gave to me that is already making its own kieki. The one spike just ends at the kieki, and the second, newer spike had its tip broke in shipping, bud it has made a new end, and has been slowly advancing since. . .

And finally, my four pregos! (not including the equestris 'Red', which I have already talked about) Back row venosa 'Kupo's Butterscotch' at left and tetraspis 'C#1' at right, and the front is pallens 'Mellow Yellow' at left and Kuntrarti Rarashati 'Copperstate' at right.

venosa 'Kupo's Butterscotch' is crossed with violacea 'Pink Flamingo'

tetraspis 'C#1' is crossed with mannii 'Red Spider'

pallens 'Mellow Yellow' is crossed with tetraspis 'C#1'

And finally, Kuntrarti Rarashati 'Copperstate' is crossed with pallens 'Mellow Yellow'

Cody, you've been quite busy! Love your photos and plants! Looking forward to seeing the blooms.
My Angdi Kolopaking didn't do much for the first month or so after I got it, and then both spikes it had, started to grow again. I have 3 buds now, so yours might start growing soon, too.
And it's so interesting to see how different your equestris "Orange" looks. Mine has long, narrow leaves, and the 2 spikes it had, were very short. One also ended with a keiki without developing any flowers; the other one had beautiful blooms. For some reason I thought a certain form of the species wouldn't have so much variation in growth.

Thank you! I am quite excited about all that is going on, and I hope that even more growth happens as the days get longer in my closet! I truly hope the small nubbin on my AK is a spike, as that should give me buds (I hope)! I also am confesued and interested in the fact that my equestris 'Orange' looks so unlike any other equestris that I have seen before. The plant has only kiekied for the previous owner, so neither of us knows what the blooms look like. It is a possibility that it is a hybrid of some sorts.

Your Princess Kaiulani is spectacular. I have a Purple Martin also and it blooms all summer for me. I think it's a great little phal. They're all very nice.
