Default Dtps I-Hsin Balloon spike stopped growing but roots are?

My I-Hsin Balloon has a spike that's been growing for a few months now. It was looking like it was finally going to bloom when it started growing these new beautiful fat green roots. The plant looks happy and healthy. Yesterday, I noticed that at each potential flower node there was a sticky drop of nectar. I thoroughly inspected the entire plant looking for bugs but found nothing.

What's going on with it? It's in a east window, over a humidity tray, temps going from 75-76 in the day dropping to 69 or lower at night.

I don't recall what it's named, but I know it happens sometime. It's a normal phenomenon, I've had it on flowers and buds of a Phal and a Lycaste and nothing bad came afterwards.

I don't think there is anything out of the ordinary going on. The plant should bloom but may take a few more months to fully develop flowers on the spike. I have seen sap on many of my plant spikes without evidence of insects etc. (and those who know me, know I've looked hard )
Roots are good too
