Whole Orchid Phal with blue flowers - Orchid Board

I just got this blue orchid, beautiful blue Phal!!!

How do I keep the blue? I noticed at the base of the flower spike a whole with blue all around .....

Thanks for any information!

Not a natural color. What you see at the base of the stem is where the blue dye was injected. The flowers take up the dye as they develop, they should stay blue. Next flowering spike... well, I'd say not blue. Maybe just a touch if some of the dye has migrated backward.

I knew wasn't natural. So the next flower spike I have, all I have to do is 'shoot' blue dye at the base of it?

I think the blue Phals are beautiful, even tho is not natural ....

Fresh cut flower turn different colors depending what color dyed water they in ...

So the Blue Phal "Gulfstream" is not actually blue? Are there any blue phls?

I think Gulfstream are purple-ish blue .... those Phals are really blue! Not natural color tho

If you want it to stay blue you will have to do coloring again.

Most of the "blue phals" that are natural are a blue violet (think blue violet tanzanite).
Phal violacea has been bred to enhance "blue" and H.P.Norton is responsible for some landmark crosses regarding this. You can read about and purchase his orchids on his website: Orchidview - About Us

They are much more beautiful than the unnatural injected blue things.
