Yes this one means a lot to me being the first. Also because I had to fight so hard to save it.

Stringa, I've never entered before but I'm actually thinking of doing this year. I can't enter this one though as it's a NoID so not eligable.

Jachilles, this is an old thread. Phalaenopsis roots, like Vanda roots are big. When one of these plants need water, you can sort of tell by the color. When you water silvery roots, it should turn green--this signifies the root is hydrated. How fast the color changes is indicative of how hydrated to root is before you watered.

Most orchids also have this same kind of behavior but the roots are not as large and as notable as Phal or Vanda roots. BTW, Phals and Vanda are relatives.

Some Phals have much "silvery" roots than others. For example, the roots of stuartiana and schilleriana are quite silver in color when dry. This trait often comes through in hybrids as well.
