The plant with four spikes - the three spikes growing from the spot where the original broken spike seem they will not get as large as the others, but do look like buds should begin to open soon.

Good GRACIOUS, Sonya!

yeah!! please tell us!!

WhiteRabbit 09-18-2010 02:30 PM

well - the plant with the 4 spikes, I broke the first spike it started while the spike was still quite small - it "compensated" by growing 3 spikes from the same leaf axis as the broken one, as well as one spike from another leaf axis. I think it's just determined to bloom, I guess ...

kmigs26 09-18-2010 02:38 PM

i wish mine was determined to bloom. or at the least determined to live!

Even too late I should reply to this. Because I love plants, trees and shrubbery . Oncidiums wont do this.
Lovely and excellent job. WR its thrilling.

Sorry for the poor photos - this has proven difficult to photograph for me - spikes going every which way, and about impossible to capture color of blooms ...

- The three spikes that emerged from the location of the broken spike are smaller than the others, and no branching as the others have. But, there seems to be some activity on some lower nodes, so perhaps will branch yet.

There have been lots of buds blasting - from the cold weather I guess. I try to remember to take it out of the window on cold nights, but I guess I am not doing a good job of that. I actually can't fit this plant on the sill any longer because of the spikes, but have it set on top of a container just next to the sill.

WhiteRabbit - Wow! I don't think I've ever seen a phal with so many spikes. Congratulations.

Thanks David - there's actually two the same in one pot - one plant has 2 spikes, the other 4 - but even 4 on one plant seems crazy to me! It probably would have had 2 spikes, had I not broke one while it was small.
