Phal. Dragons Charm multiple plants 1 pot - Orchid Board

Just received from Baldan's Orchids - E-Bay Phal. Dragon's Charm Yellow. There are 3 plants in a 4" pot and it has so many roots I'm not sure what to do.

Should I repot the whole thing in the next size pot, divide them and what should I do with the roots. I need your expertise.....

They definitely look big enough/enough roots to be each out on their own in seperate pots. Plant the roots in the medium in the new pots and remove any dead/rotted roots that are brown/mushy.

I'd pot them up individually. Give them a good soaking first to soften up those roots. Loks like you got a good deal.

Thanks for the info. All the roots are in good shape none that are soft. There's just are so many and they are so long. Would you trim some of the roots? I don't want to pot them in to big a pot.

Try not to cut or break the roots just wind them into the smallest pot that they will fit.

Sheridan, are you sure these are 3 separate plants? They could be basal growths and if they are, you don't want to separate. I have some Phals with multiple plants in one pot but they're all basal's and there's no telling unless, unpotted....they're attached from very low down, under the medium. Also, Baldans orchids notoriously produce a lot of basal growths. If they are unattached then, yes...you want to put them in separate pots. A good soaking and patience will help untangle the roots and BTW...those roots are fantastic!

I have this plant from Baldans. I got mine as a keiki and it has taken off. It's a great, reliable, bloomer (in spike now for the second time this year).

Take Sandy's suggestion and make sure these are separate plants. If basal growths, put all in one pot. Soaking the roots for an hour or so before you try to pot it up will help by making the roots more pliable.
