Default Not one, not two, but four NoID Phals followed me home!

So on Monday night I went with Hubby to the supermarket to get groceries. As we drove there I thought that I might get a nice NoID Phal if they had one. I've not had a new orchid for a couple of months after all.

Well there were two minis I really liked. One yellow and one a dark purple (the purple is darker than the pic shows).

I asked Hubby whether "I could put them close together so he wouldn't notice there were two" He smiled indulgently and I said "at least I've eliminated one of the three I first saw"... but after picking up that third one to show him I found I couldn't put it down again. (He says he's sure orchids have sticky pots)

Don't know why I had ever put this one back. The more I look at it the more I love the really really dark center against the white.

So then there were three in my trolly... out of five that had been on the shelf. Good job the other two were the same as each other and the same as one I already had.

Anyway we moved on and I was looking at cucumbers when hubby said "you've not looked up yet". I looked up and the top of the veg display was full of large Phals at half price (not sure they are ever at full price but for £5 for a nice looking Phal I don't care). I was not going to get one of those... after all there were already three minis in my basket, but this one caught my eye.

So I ended up with four!

The minis were like the last one I bought, in very very tightly packed moss with an inner plastic sleave inside the pot. The previous one I had repotted in bark but I've had trouble with the buds blasting, so these I have taken out and repotted in the same moss they came in but with only about half the amount. I will probably put them in bark after the flowers are gone but I hope that by doing this I will not shock the plant too much with such a drastic change.

Of course they may blast anyway as my house is quite cold just now. But I'm enjoying them just now.

Beauties, Rosie! And an example of why I avoid shopping, too!

And I thought I behaved bad this week (2 Phal's) LOL.
That mini with white is awesome. If you have seconds thoughts about it, email me and I'll send you my address haha.
The larger Phal might be something like Phal. Minho Princess? I bought a similar looking one in May from the clearance rack. It was in realy bad shape but it recovered well and yesterday I noticed the beginning of a spike. Must be a strong plant. I hope your's is as strong as mine seems to be. These must be beautiful when an entire spike is in bloom.

Great choices you made!
BTW I love the sticking pots theory, never heard that one before ;-)

How exciting! I always end up with unused, stale or rotted vegetables at the bottom of the refrigerator bins, always regretting buying too much of something or other that ends up in the garbage, shamefully wasteful, I admit but, I've never bought too many orchids, never!!!

You did well Ms. Rosie. They're beautiful. I wouldn't worry about the moss they were potted in. In fact, after these past few years, I just learned that my Phals always remain happiest if I don't repot them right away (unless the medium is sinfully broken down), especially when they're in spagh. It just takes more precision and less room for screwing up when watering but once you get it right, Phals respond favorably to spagh. If you put sponge-rock (perlite) in with the spagh., you'll be safe and worry free.

Enjoy!

Nice finds! Very pretty. Funny how orchids just seem to jump into the shopping cart.

Rosie, they are GORGEOUS! I love hearing that someone can't resist bringing home a NoID (or 4!!!). I'm sure it gives me license to do the same! Yay!

Thanks everyone.

The last one certainly looks very like Phal. Minho Princess. From the pics I have found of that, it even has the slightly crazy spikes going in all directions which Minho Princess seems to have (I've not shown that in the pic, but the 'main' spike is actually a branch of a branch and it seems to be branching all over the place).

I'm going to name it that with a note that it is not certain. With so many Phal hybrids you can never be exactly sure but I like to name them all so it saves me making up a name

I'm not sure about the Dtps. Tzu Chiang Bingo 'C1' name for the yellow one. I think the lip is different. Can't see that in the pic so I will have to check when I get home.

How could you possibly thought of leaving the 4th one? I like it best of all 4, but they are also pretty. Good choices.

You better give your hubby a BIG hug for being so nice and thoughtful, he could have diverted your attention to the carrots.
