Two Phals starting to bloom. - Orchid Board

My NOID Phals are nothing special, but are still a joy every time they flower.

Just now I have two of them opening buds at the same time.

The white one was a discount one with a broken flower stem and just two physically damaged flowers left. A side spike started soon after I brought it home and has finally openned two new flowers with two more buds still growing.

The second I've had over a year now and this is the third time it's been in flower for me. This is the one some of you may have seen me showing pictures of the roots, because I repotted it while the spike was growing and squeezed it's huge mass or roots back in to the original pot (it should have gone up at least one size if not two).

It didn't miss a beat with the repotting and the main spike has THREE side spikes all forming buds as well as a second spike. The first flower on the main spike has opened (although I expect it to go wider) and a second is just starting to open. The shots are not the clearest but I quite like the shot of the part open bud. I'm really hoping that this 'chid can hold it's ealiest flowers until all the stems and side stems are fully open, because it should be quite a display.

Rosie, they are beautiful and they are very special. All of mine are quitting and it is time to cut spikes and re-pot.

So do I Agree!!!! It's already a big challenge to make them re-bloom and a 3rd spike in a year is a fantastic achievement! well done Rosie!

I have a noid looks exactly like your first photo,
which I haven't seen in flower since before january 2007 it's is in spike/flower @ the moment (she "fell off" the furniture - thanks to 2 playful kittens....

she since developped a basal keiki which has finally got a spike & is in flower, after 2 1/2 years!

Very nice Rosie! There is just something classic and beautiful about a white Phal.

You're obviously doing a great job growing them.

Thanks David, but I'm not sure it's a talent. After the first flowers last year it was triggered to spike again in a cold snap we had in September and flowered over Christmas. Then another cold snap this spring triggered spiking again on this one and on one which is currently in the recovery ward (so I removed the spike on that one).

This plant has grown SO much in the last year. It seems to be one of those which can grow roots, leaves and flowers all at the same time.
