Default Phal. Sogo Grape 'Paul Genovese' HCC/AOS

Hey Everyone,
I had great fortune this past Saturday at the monthly AOS judging at the West Palm Beach center.

Here is one of my awarded plants, Phal. Sogo Grape 'Paul Genovese' HCC/AOS, named after my brother Paul.

Enjoy!

Very beautiful plant! Did it have only 11 flowers on it when it was awarded? If so that is encouraging because some judges think phals need to have like 15 or so before they will even look at it, and unfortunatly red toned phals are not as floriferous because of the species in the background. Some of the species used in red breeding only have one or two flowers open at a time which is NOT a fault just the way nature made the plant.

Way to go!! It's a very beautiful Sogo Grape, and very nice to have it given the name of your brother. What a great namesake. This phal is way at the top of my wishlist, but it seems hard to find here.

Judging always takes into account the parentage and the improvement on those parents. If neither parent has a tendency for lots of flowers on one inflorescence then that is considered. Historically, yellow and red phals have improved vastly over the past 20 years or so, hence the standard is also increased.

It's easy to see why that plant was awarded. Congratulations. And also a fine honor to your brother.
