I'm CLUMSY!! I BROKE A PHAL SPIKE :(
Hi everyone
I'm sooooo SAD & MAD right now, having to write this!!
If I was flexable enough, I would Kick my self in my Own ARSE!!!!
I was just outside checking out my babies in my Chid Hotel, and I bumped one of my Phal's with about 8" Spike and broke the last 1" off of it
Can anyone tell me, Did I just kill that Spike??
Or will it survive, and Keep on growing??
I pray you Plz tell me YES, She'll keep growing!!

Don't panic! Who was that that said that? (Oh yeah Douglas Adams in Hitchhiker's guide...) Is there another bud that can take over?

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

It was a yes if there is another bud (node) below the break point.

Yikes! It won't grow any longer, but it still might bloom. Maybe even throw out a side branch or two. And don't you just hate it when you can't blame it on the cat or the dog!

Sprinkle the break with cinnamon, and say the orchid prayer, and you should be golden. Mine have all grown new shoots off a broken one.....not that I'm in the habit of breaking them, but I have, quite a few times. They were all accidents of course, so don't go calling the orchid police on me okay?
I'm innocent I tell ya!

Sheesh! I hate when I do stuff like that. I recently bent a new growth on my Blc. Mem. Vida Lee 'Limelight'. I staked it up (it wouldn't stand up on it's own). As the leaf continued to grow it revealed a sheath inside. Only time will tell if my stupidty will cost me that sheath developing buds. Good luck with yours. I think you'll find the need to reproduce is very strong in orchids.
