Default Oops!

So I bought a phal plant from Walmart, and soon after it was done blooming (or maybe before) I got worried that the pot wasn't draining properly, so I uprooted it to check. What I found was not one plant with rotted roots, but two! So I doctored them as best I can and they are still alive, and the one that wasn't in flower had a spike on it, which I wasn't sure what was going to happen.

So A few weeks later, the flowers have long gone off the first plant and its still chugging along (I hope... it only has one root left), and the other one developed buds on it's spike. But here's the fun part.... the flower doesn't look like the other flowers..... so I have a case of mistaken identity.

Not only that... but it looks like the flower got lazy when it was mostly open, and one petal is now stuck out front.

So here is a picture of the plant as I got it from Walmart, called Little Mary x King Shiang, and then the picture of the new flower.... I dunno it doesn't look at all like the same plant to me

Very nice to get two for one and they're both lovely! Now the question is which one matches the tag, unless you got one of each parent!

I found Phal Little Mary in the RHS registry ..
is there any more to the Phal King Shiang name on the tag? Here are the registered choices -
Doritaenopsis -
King Shiang's Baby, King Shiang's Balas, King Shiang's Beauty, King Shiang's Coral, King Shiang's Fire,
King Shiang's Happy, King Shiang's Kide, King Shiang's Kiss, King Shiang's Lady, King Shiang's Pixie, King Shiang's Princess,
King Shiang's Rose, King Shiang's Spot, King Shiang's Star, King Shiang's Suntris, King Shiang's Tiger

Phalaenopsis -
King Shiang's Ambo, King Shiang's Halo

If the 2 were compotted .. maybe it is the same phal with different coloration from the same lineage ..

This same thing just happend to me over the weekend. I bought what was being sold as a "double spike" plant. But I got it home and it was actually two plants crammed into one pot. I wasn't quite as lucky to get a different variety, but still, two-for-one!

Niki - Great deal! I love both of the flowers. I'm glad they are doing well and responding to your 'nursing'!!

I also have a question for you... in the first photo you have a Milt in the background of the picture. It looks just like my NOID! Do you have a name for yours?

Thanks guys! Actually... I'm still not 100% sure that first phal will make it. It had the more extensive root damage, and only has one root now. I've not got them both in those clay orchid pots with the holes in the sides, so we shall see.

Shannan, I never got a tag with that Milt, but I think it is called Miltoniopsis Herr Alexandre '189'. I found that name when I was looking for something else, and saw a plant that was pretty well the same one I had, so... that's what I'm calling it! Here's a relatively better picture of it. The flowers have only -just- all wilted, and I got it flowering in January!
