Hi, I'm thinking of moving back to my home country and would like to bring some of my orchids with me if I do. I'm worried about my Phalaenopsis though as the temperatures seem to be a lot higher than what is recommended. It seems like the area I would be moving to is usually around 30 degrees Celsius as well as very humid in the summer, and there have been record highs of 36 degrees Celsius with 80% humidity.

To those of you who do have them in hot countries, what do you do to handle the heat? Or is it not worth it?

Thanks in advance

Phals love heat if humidity is high. 30-36 is not too hot. But it may not be legal to bring plants with you. Find out first.

Oh that's good to know! I've brought plants out of Mauritius into Sweden before and they had to sanitize the plants etc but it was ok. I do think some orchids are protected so I'm checking. Hopefully my hybrids are fine to bring with. I'd hate to give this one away!

I don’t know how well phals cope with changing from one climate to another, but my own phals make lots of healthy leaf growth outside, under an awning, for all our hot and humid Sydney summers. I leave them there even on 40 degree + (Celsius) days.

High heat + deep shade = happy phalaenopsis that should grow very well.

So instead of having to worry about keeping them warm in winter, now you have to figure out how to give them a couple weeks of an average growing temperature 10-degrees cooler, to induce blooming.
