P. picasso: leaf border a different color, normal?
Default P. picasso: leaf border a different color, normal?

I have just received a Phalaenopsis picasso from a reputed nursery in France. The border of the leaves looks different (discolored?). Only one leaf looks green throughout. Could you please tell me if this is normal?
The flowers look great.
Many thanks!

It's not in perfect condition but it isn't anything you can't fix with good plant care.
Whether it was too cold temps that caused the damage is hard to tell but it most likely was. It could be a nutrient deficiency but that is less likely.
Overall it looks in good shape and should grow healthy leaves in future under your care. Try to water it rain water, not tap water. Do you have fertilizer you can feed it?
It might have been stressed recently and could drop it's flowers as a results but middle of winter is never a good time to buy orchids so just get it through winter and it should start growing well in spring.

Keep the substrate dryish in winter but not bone dry, excessive dryness can cause leaf damage too. In Spring you can start watering more regularly

It also looks to me like a bit of cold damage. Nothing to worry about. With regard to fertilizer, just be light-handed with it. Whatever it says on the bottle, use half as much or less. "Once weekly, weakly" ... or less. I have not found that Phals have a problem with tap water... but that's MY tap water, high in calcium... if there's a lot of sodium, not so good. (Don't ever use softened water on plants) But if other house plants are OK with your tap water, the Phalaenopsis probably will be fine with it too.
