Not sure what's funny about it... but RHS and AOS seem to agree that the grex C. Bob Betts x C. Bow Bells is, in fact, C. José Martí ... so at some point RHS (the data source of record) caught and corrected the duplication - C. Mother's Favourite is now listed as a synonym.

There's probably history... maybe somebody had a problem with an awarded orchid being named for a Cuban hero and tried to sneak something through.

It's an interesting and cute grex name. Although, it is slightly corny too ..... but nowhere near as corny as Ctna. Why Not. Although ------ it is an own choice thing heheh.

Hard to say what happened right now. Maybe the AOS has records or logs ----- comments etc along with the records. If something does get changed, then it will (would) be nice to have some accountability or traceability - such as reason for the change, or a change.

Here is an interesting article that gives the backstory to the parents of C. José Martí .

Nice article Roberta.

Also nice to see C. Jose Marti in the register.

I originally thought Bob Betts was the one that is currently in the AOS. But the name in that cross 'might' be a different Bob Betts. I might have to ask him one day hehehe. But I wouldn't be surprised if it not him - the one currently in AOS. But on the other hand ----- I wouldn't be surprised if it is him too.

There is only one C. Bob Betts (C. Bow Bells x C. mossiae). There may be multiple cultivars of it... A remake even with the exact same parents (same plants) can turn out different. A remake with different cultivars of the parents certainly will be different. But the grex name applies to ALL crosses made with any cultivars of those parents. (And the reverse of which is the pod parent and which is the pollen parent will also have the same grex name) And they will be different. Just like children of the same parents look different unless they are genetically the same (like identical twins)

oops! Apologies. I meant ----- the person Bob Betts (currently a member of the AOS) ----- just wondering if the orchid name is linked to him, or some other Bob Betts. Maybe a different Bob Betts heheh.

Well, the grex was registered in 1950. I strongly suspect that the person for whom the grex was named is no longer with us... if he is, he's 'way up there in years because likely he was already prominent in the orchid field to get a very special orchid named for him.

Hi Roberta, I strongly believe not the same person too ----- based on that registration year. Different Bob Betts!
