Phalaenopsis Joey
Default Phalaenopsis Joey

First time blooming for this primary hybrid. Nicely shaped blooms with a light scent.

Phal. gigantea x Phal. lueddemanniana

Those are beautiful flowers! And those leaves look great too. God job!

Big thumbs up!

Forgive an ignorant question but does this vary so much from gigantea that it will not need to be inverted?

I have a teenager of a phal gigantea and I was advised to mount it upside down bc of the leaf size and the possibility for for. Does this not apply to the offspring ?

Clearly a Beautifully grown plant! Well done

At the moment it just looks like a "regular" sized phalaenopsis - I have three gigantea primary hybrid and gigabell looks like a giant.

I never water the leaves of any of my orchids as I live in a cool and cloudy climate and worry about rot.

I get that. I was just asking if people advised mounting these inverted to avoid the risk of rot.

That’s what I was told about the one I have. Just curious about the culture for the “big leaf” phals
Thanks

What a great looking Phal! Crosses with gigantea often yield some very nice and large flowers. Did it inherit any of the fragrance of gigantea?

Growing Phal gigantea mounted is advised but not mandatory. If you plan on having it outside or in any growing condition where it will get it's leaves wet, mounting is definitely a good idea. However for strictly indoor culture potting can work as well. Mine is potted since I did see photos of nice specimens in greenhouses in potted, that were hanging at an angle. My pot is also at a 45 degree angle, just from the weight of the leaves. I left it like that since the plant seems rather happy to be hanging off the edge of my shelves...
