All Pink Phal 'Magic Art'?
Default All Pink Phal 'Magic Art'?

I finally got a phal 'Magic Art' from an online retailer a few weeks ago, but I was a bit disappointed when the flowers started to open. One of the reasons I wanted this phal was because of its unstable colors, but I haven't seen one that's just all light pink like this one. I checked the reviews for this phal on the retailer's site and they're all positive and some even posted pictures of theirs in bloom and they all look like a typical 'Magic Art'. Has anybody seen 'Magic Art' show all light pink with a bit of white like this, or is this possibly not the right phal?

Seed grown phals have great variability. If this is a clone, then it's true that all should look essentially the same. You need to find out from the retailer - especially in view of your comment "unstable colors".

Magic Art is one of those oddballs that shows a propensity for unstable colors and patterns of the flowers. Even blooms on the same spike can look wildly different.

Wouldn't this uniformly represent in the clones ?

It is difficult to say whether you have the right orchid.
Temperature can have a big impact on 'reds' in flowers. Cooler temperatures seem to bring out the 'reds' better. Over the years, I have definitely seen this with Phals, my Nelly Isler, Cattleyas, and some non-orchids (i.e. jasmine).
I really dislike when my Nelly Isler blooms during the summer as the flowers are, if I am lucky, white and a faded red or, if I am unlikely, brown and white. During the winter, though, the flowers are a beautiful red with just a little white.
Some of my purple Cattleyas or pink Cattleyas will be devoid of the 'reddish' hue if they bloom during the summer. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.

Coincidentally, I just bought this orchid from one of my favorite vendors for tropical plants, because I was buying other plants and this one was on sale. As temperatures are already warm and summer is near, I am expecting that the coloring will be lighter, perhaps pink or white.
