so i re-routed my dryer vent....
trying to get a lil more warth n humidity in the basement with chids (no orchidarium yet)but read some stuff online that its not a good idea because of lint getting into the air. i watched it go and it didnt seem to be a problem, didnt see any lint coming out. brought humidity up from 33 to 55 too!
anybody know the deal with these? anybody use one?

It actually works! Aim the end of the dryer vent into a container of water and that will trap the lint. I've done it myself and will testify it works. You can actually buy a container that accepts the end of a dryer vent hose and contains water! Go figure! So all you need to do is set up the end of the dryer vent hose to aim directly into a large container of water and you are good to go. Don't forget to scoop the lint off the the top of the water!

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

This is the setup I have in my basement every winter. Helps keep the cold from coming through the vent area. We block that hole up and use the container. I never see lint but in the container. I don't have any orcids in my basement, though, but I wouldn't hesitate if I had a set up there. Hmmmmmm, would make more space for orchids.....hmmmmmm.  Now that is a new idea I hadn't thought of before.

ok ill just roll with it till spring then. i do have it routed into a store bought contraption with water to trap lint.

Wow, I know in my town it's against code to vent your dryer inside. It used to be ok...really helped it not get so dry inside in the winter!  |

yes i had heard it was against code in some places. thats kinda why i was wondering if it was cool to do...

Do a search online for 'venting clothes dryer', and you'll quickly find hits regarding the dangers. Fire hazards (dried lint is very flammable) and mold/humidity problems top the list. |

def not worried about mold/humidity. in winter im usually at about 30%  . 50-60% with the dryer on  dried lint though... but like i said i watched it in action and it didnt seem to be releasing any lint...

ok, so following up for others interested, the indoor dryer venting does in fact release a considerable amount of lint, ive started finding little lint balls everywhere. so despite the humidity increase benefit, i dont believe its such a good idea...
