Welcome to Orchid Board!

I haven't used it, but I think people could use a little more information about the bulb so they know what you're talking about.

Default PAR38 60watts

The PAR 38 is from Orchids Limited the brand is ALTLED. I have been using it for several months. I see very strong leaf growth on cat seedlings and Paphs and Phrags. However I can find nothing about this in print.

I have been using LED lights from Aeon Lighting Technology from Orchids Limited for about 5 years. I have 4 PAR 38 bulbs that are 30 watts. You can go to the Aeon Lighting Technology website to look up the specifics on the 60 watt bulb, but I am remembering that my 30 watt bulbs produce about 2400 lumens in the natural white version. My beam angle for these bulbs is 100 degrees, so they are wide dispersion. You can grow Cattleyas under these are 6-8 inches and at the other extreme you can place lower light orchids like Paphs 2-3 feet and cover a fairly wide area.

The ALT bulbs are not cheap, but I think they have wonderful heat dispersion and are well constructed with top quality chips. I am not able to be a build-it-yourself person.

If you like orchid web's par leds then you should check out some of the new led bulbs offered for sale at grocery stores etc.

There are bulbs which have 5000 K spectrums, and 2000 lumens. They are also 17 bucks a pop. I have no idea what the beam angles are, but most are designed for a wide distribution of light.

Hi Terryros, how many square feet do you cover with your 4 x 30 watts PAR 38 bulbs?

Thanks!

The PAR38 30 W bulbs are used in pairs over two separate areas that are about 2 feet wide by 3 feet long. The one area is for some Paphs (farther away from bulbs) and the other have some Cattleyas (tops are about 6-8 inches away). What area you can cover will depend on the type of plants you are trying to grow. With the 100 degree lens that I have on these bulbs, the area of illumination is fairly wide, but the intensity falls off at the perimeter fairly quickly.
