Default easy to make tiered shelving?

I've been reading Bob Gordon's phal book, he has some stairstepped type shelves for his phals, 6 inches deep, 12 inches tall, 5 or 6 levels.

I'd like to do something similar for my indoor grow room, but I'm not very handy. Charley's Greenhouse sells some shelves, but they are 12 inches deep and don't look all that sturdy.

I'm wondering if I can do something cheap and easy with cinderblocks and wire closet shelving, or some such thing? Ideas and photos would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Sheila

Yes, you can do it with wire shelves. I made some nice tiered benches using stair stringers and wire cloth. That is the easiest way.

Cinder blocks rock! So versitile. We have used a brick and board "entertainment center" for years.
For an orchid environment tho: :
I've seen some people use those grates that office buildings use on their flourescent light fixtures. They kind of look like the top grid from a humidity tray...only larger and you can trim them to size if desired. I think I saw Ross use some in his orchidarium. It was pretty cool. I'm sure you would also be able to use this material as shelving if it was sitting on your cinder block.

Buy a wire type shelf from Lowes or Costo. They are 4 feet long, 18 inches wide. Very sturdy with easily adjusted shelf heights.
Peter.

I actually have a wire shelf unit like you describe, and I like it a lot. But I also have an HID over a banquet talbe that I used to use for tropical hibiscus over the winter. I got tired of the hibiscus (too many bugs, not enough light) and switched to phals and minicatts instead. I'm looking for a way to stairstep to make the most of the limited growing space I have.
