It's important to remember to satisfy the plants and not the measuring devices.

Another question related to growing with lights...

I am starting to shorten my "daylight", and plan to go to 11 hours for winter...

How many months of 11 hour "daylight" is necessary, for plants to feel "Winter"?

I answerd Sam by private message as well, but few orchids would need more than 6 weeks of 11 hour days to start the reproductive blooming process. A number of orchid types don't even need short days to bloom, so it depends on what you grow. Similarly, a cool down associated with short days (a full vernalization) is only needed for certain types or orchids, but with my mixed collection in a single indoor growing room, I have to give the vernalization to every plant, whether they need it or not.
