How many cfls for this "terrarium"? Male
Default How many cfls for this "terrarium"?

I got a large decorative lantern for Christmas this year.
And I want to grow mini orchids in it.
All the other complications aside, I need to know how much lighting I should stick in.
I have the option for up to three cfl bulbs up top. With mini cfl preferably, which are 14 watts each.
I will be adding in a reflector.

Basically what I want is phal lighting or brighter near the bottom.
How many cfl should I go for?
The actual grow space is 15 inches tall and 10 wide...

What are you going to grow? If you are going with 14W CFL, I would start from 2 (for moderate light plants). You can also try 9-11W LED bulbs.

No idea... I haven't really looked into that yet. I think intermediate/warm growers. I'd like to have a range of low to high light mini orchids in there. Probably orchids that like a more even moisture level. It's going to be more most the lower you go down. But I'm doubtful I'll be able to provide much of a rest period.
Near the top maybe.
I'm partial to brightly coloured showy flowers rather than the understated yet interesting species.
Not that those won't be going in either.

I'd say a 14-23w CFL will light that perfectly. Just depends on what you want to grow
