The sanderianum bloomed once before for the breeder and should hopefully bloom for me soon. My masdevallia wasn't doing well for a while because it was too warm, so I potted in sphagnum in a clay pot for evaporative cooling and put it in a north window. It is recovering. I have all my phals and the masdevallia in straight sphagnum moss. All my phals are in clear or net pots to allow the roots to photosynthesize and so they stay in the pot.

Oh good, good luck with your sanderianum!!
My masdevallia is actually in straight up moss in a clay pot already, so hopefully it's doing alright then! It's definitely rather cold in this house to begin with, so I have a feeling it's happier about the default climate in here than all of my others are. (The others get heat mat time. )
I have my phals in bark in clear pots--for some reason, moss and phals just don't mix well in my house--they always rot out on me. They're very happy in bark here though. Do you tend to have better success with net or clear pots?

Thumbs up

I haven't used the net pots for that long but I know the clear pots are working well for me. See some pictures of one of my phals outgrowing its clear pot in this thread: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...g-its-pot.html
