Ron,

That tank is nothing short of drool-worthy. I don't know what your day job is but if you ever get tired of it and want to do something else, please let me be the first customer of your tank-design company. That set up is just incredible. Do you have heat control that is independent of the lighting - or do you manage to control the temperature by manipulating the lights and the fans?

Hi J,

Thanks for the nice comments. Much appreciated. As to heat control, there is nothing built in. The set-up is in a basement room and that helps keep the temp down in the summer - I don't think it's ever gone above 80 - and a window helps regulate the temperature as well.

Ron, it looks like you have alot blooming in there right now! Do you have any close up shots of different areas of the tank? I'd love to see some "in-situ" pictures of where your orchids grow.

I just posted some "in situ" pictures on the blog. I apologize, however, for their poor quality. That was a tough assignment, friend.

There are about 200 plants in the case at present, Paul, though I haven't done an exact count recently. The growing area is 48" x 32" x 30".

I wouldn't call those poor quality at all! I enjoyed each one. I'm amazed at all the lush moss growth on the mounts and pots. Sorry if I missed it somewhere, but do you use a humidifier or is it all from watering?

Those Oxyglossums are amazing. I really like the cuthbertsoniis but the agathodaemonis is a nice color change as well. I'm going to give one of these a try in my fridge tank next time I order plants. Hopefully I'll be half as successful as you. I could go on and on between the Trisetellas and Masdevallias and everything else blooming in there!

What's that purplish leafed plant that's rambling/ vining off the mount in the picture with the the Den. agathodaemonis and Masdevallia? It looks like some kind of Nanodes/ Epidendrum.

I don't use a humidifier - don't need to. The humidity is usually around 80%. As to the plant you asked about it's Epidendrum escobarianum - the flowers are shown in the third to last photo.

Great setup, Ron! Your plants all look extremely happy. Makes me want to try a (small) orchidarium.

The moss grows so quickly I sometimes have to pull it off to make sure it doesn't overwhelm the plants - that and the live sphagnum I use grow madly.
